Although I never had similiar problem, many E90 user have problem with theirs E90 microphone. I thought it,s only happened in few defective product, but Nokia finally told us that they have defective component in the microphone. And this happened in MANY E90 product!
Nokia said a defective component in microphones, coupled with high demand, have hampered the availability of its flagship business phone, the E90 Communicator.
Background noise during phone calls, which raised customer complaints, was caused by a defective component in the microphone, spokeswoman Theresa Parenteau for Nokia Enterprise Solutions unit told Reuters.
"Although the issue is now rectified it has resulted in more limited availability than originally anticipated in some markets," she said.
When Nokia unveiled the phone in February 2007 it said it would start selling it in the second quarter in selected markets, with volume shipments coming in the July-September quarter.
Customers have also reported scratches on the phone screen caused by some keyboard keys touching the screen. Nokia said it has now added a strengthening layer on the screens and modified the keyboard, so the keys will not touch the screen.

Nokia E90 Blank Display!
Your Nokia E90 internal screen gone blank? Don’t Panic! Just read some users with their “experience” :
“So I just got my new E90 a few days ago, and since day one, the following has happened on and off: sometimes when I flip the phone open, the outside screen and keyboard stay active and the inside ones remain completely off. Usually just flipping the phone shut again and re-opening it did the trick. This afternoon, I flipped it open, and it just won't activate the inner screen and keyboard. I've tried removing the battery and resetting and such, but to no avail. The outside screen still works just fine in all respects - even when the phone is opened up, though! Has anyone else had this happen? Does anyone know what to do?” Ojikun.
“Hey all..I hope someone can help. I opened up my e90 and the internal screen has gone blank. Ive tried adjusting the light settings, wiggling the screen, Ive even done a hard reset to no avail. When you boot up the phone it does show up the Nokia logo but the screen is not lit up, then it just goes dark. Any ideas? Cheers!” Jetspeed.
Are you have similiar problem like this? Well, don’t be panic. The problem probably not as serious as you tought. Nokia E90 just have an allergic with Magnet!
There is magnetic switch, which can be jammed. Try to open an shut clamshell several times and leave it open for longer period. This have helped in some cases.
Are you using a flip case with magnets? If yes, then change your case with non-magnetic case. The case you bought for the E90 may have caused a problem as it has a magnet inside.

Cargo Cult Communicator Stalls on Runway

Production of Nokia's troubled E90 "Communicator" has been halted, the company has confirmed to Dutch trade paper Telecom.
The device has been plagued by small production problems, but one rather larger design problem. Early adopters, some of whom have paid over $1,000 for the latest incarnation of the "brick", have complained about dust getting behind the fascia, and uneven feet (that's the phone's rubber feet, rather than their own).
Nokia says a microphone glitch is responsible for this delay, however, and that production will soon be back up and running.
Fixing such minor mechanical issues should be trivial for Nokia's fabled engineers, but the bigger problem is that the company has alienated much of the core business market that made the Communicator a profitable niche.
It was never a volume business for Nokia, but large enterprises liked the mature support for IBM and Oracle middleware, while enterpreneurs and sales forces appreciated the fax and sophisticated messaging.
The E90 is the most powerful hardware Nokia has ever assembled in a phone, but by throwing out a sophisticated, designed-for-QWERTY user interface and replacing it with a Noddy replacement, and less functional applications (as well as omitting much-valued features), the E90 represents a downgrade in almost every practical respect (for example, this more modern "upgrade" can't even display HTML messages properly, while the one it replaces could).

Warning! Dust Under Front Display!

After keyboard mark on the internal screen, some E90 user now complaining about dust under front display. My friend complained his E90 got dust quickly after he bought it. Some user even got it since they unboxed it from the store! And other user found some little small hair under their external screen! What happened Nokia?
All of this shouldn't happened unless the gasket around the LCD has been breached, or the cover isnt fitting to the LCD gasket properly. The dust may come from power button and speaker upside the display. Here some interesting post from Eric, user who got problem with the E90 external screen:
Post 1:
Hello,
I got my Nokia E90 one week ago here in Germany and I´m impressed, really. But there´s one bad thing: When I unboxed it I saw that there´s lots of dust under the front display !! at a new device !!
I tried to change it but my provider said that they don´t have any devices left for changing when I now come to Nokia Service Centers. Ok there are lots of them but they don´t have a description on how to handle this device, I called 10 of them and they said unless they don´t have own devices and descriptions they can´t do anything !
Anybody knows how to open that brick ?!
Guarantee is not a theme so I´m glad for any ideas or descriptions how to open it.
Thanks

Hello,
I have a funny update concerning dust under the front display of Nokia E90 !
After several calls to "so called Nokia service centers" I found the site http://europe.nokia.com where I got a support telephone number from Nokia in Germany. This is interesting for you all because the site is called europe.nokia.co but you find information for the whole globe !!
Ok, they gave me the adress of a support center in my city. So far so good, when I went there I only saw an old E-Plus store, no Nokia sign at all but when I entered the store I saw a big screen inside "Club Nokia Service Center". They told me to wait maximum 45 minutes but after 10 minutes the guy came back to me with my Nokia E90 that looked like just being born out of an egg, perfect job for free. With this story I want you all to inform that you can´t rely on the service centers given on the "country" Nokia sites. I before called 10 of them and no one could help me but the europe.nokia.com site has the best global support, see for yourself and undeline my story.
Post 3:
hello,
2 weeks ago I posted that I got my new E90 with a dusty front dsiplay. I got it cleaned free (guarantee issue) and I was made happy agai. Now since a few days, dust again, same area. I went back to that guy and let him clean it again and then he showed me the inside of that little baby and a new front face plate. You know what: The normal way Nokia saves their screens is by placing a filthy cover round each display which the is pressed on this filthy cover so that no dust gets in. (Like the big screen inside the E90 or Nokia N95) Here at the outside, the filthy protection is not available, only a plastic one that is very gently pressed on the glas screen which means a little dust prtection only. So that there´s the "On" button on the top right outside corner, this is where the cover is pressed "downwards" inside the shell (by turning on and off device or when its in your pocket), so dust will always get into the device after a while. I experienced the same problem with the front display of the Nokia N93 outside display which at least has NO dust cover.
kind regards,
Eric
Well, any idea how to solve this problem??

Nokia E90 Keyboard Too Small?

The main assets of the Communicators is the ability to be write in a comfortable way on a qwerty keyboard. But if you look at below picture, yaou can see the keys of the E90 are smaller than those of the 9500. Nokia decided to miniaturize its new Communicator, so it affect to the keyboard layout too. It’s not good for fast and long typing with several fingers.
Fortunatelly, most review i read n several feedback from early user said that the keyboard is still comfort to use. Some people even said its better than 9500. Of course the size of your hands and fingers also play a part. If you have hands the size of a boxing glove, sure you are going to have a problem. Have the fingers of a pianist and you probably won't.
Guse from my-symbian.com forum said, “I wasn´t satisified with the E90 keyboard and the logic of the keyboard in the beginning. But now after some months use I have to admit thet the keyboard is exellent. I have heard that the last minute changes in the hardware have been made in UI. They have for example changed the function keys beside the sccreen. The keys have been separated from each other and they are a little bit higher to make the use in twilight easier.”
