Nokia Now Owns Symbian
Nokia and Symbian have been working together for many years. Finally the cooperation has reached the end recently, since now Nokia owns the Symbian. In their announcement, they said that they took over the Symbian by buying the company’s
shares that doesn’t they own yet. Here's where it gets interesting, though: rather than taking Symbian's intellectual private for Nokia's own benefit, the goods will be turned over to the Symbian Foundation, a nonprofit whose sole goal will be the advancement of the Symbian platform in its many flavors. Motorola and Sony Ericsson have signed up to contribute UIQ assets, while NTT DoCoMo (which uses Symbian-based wares in a number of its phones) will be donating code as well.
Other Symbian Foundation members include Texas Instruments, Vodafone, Samsung, LG, and AT&T (yep, the same AT&T that currently sells precisely one Symbian-based phone), so things could get interesting. The move clearly seems to be a preemptive strike against Google's Open Handset Alliance, LiMo, and other collaborative efforts forming around the globe with the goal of standardizing smartphone operating systems; the writing was on the wall, and Symbian didn't want to miss the train. Total cash outlay for the move will run Nokia roughly €264 million -- about $410 million in yankee currency.

Effective Ads is now easy using Nokia’s MOSH.
Nokia has given a statement that its MOSH service is joining the Nokia Media Network. With the Nokia’s MOSH service an advertiser now can reach more than a million consumers all over the world, as the “spot-light” program enables him or her to do so. Placing the ads above all organic browse, search and contextual placements, the program makes it visibly eye-catching for Nokia consumers who are downloading original mobile content.
Instances of effectiveness are shown by The U.S. based video sharing community, Vringo, who has increased downloads by over 100% since early May. Germany-based BLUE LION mobile, which makes the Java-based multi-layered mobile social networking application "Qeep," also experienced an increase in downloads by over 95. Now Nokia turns to pitch other companies to advertise on MOSH (and other Nokia Media Network properties, for that matter).

Nokia E90 Successor Confirmed
The present of slightly modified Nokia E90 has been spotted at WMC. It looks like that Nokia will be releasing the new E90 in black color. The technical specifications remain practically the same. The changes are mainly in the build area and of course fixing some of the problems present in the current model. It can be said that the keyboard of the modified E90 is different.
While my device's screen has not suffered from scratches caused by the keyboard, many users have reported this problem. Also, the speaker and microphone of E90 had many faults. Mine works fine, but many users have been complaining on noise during calls. It is not known whether this issue is fixed or not in the modified version. Most likely Nokia has fixed it.

The premium advertising network, Nokia Media Network, to include more than 70 leading publishers and operators. AccuWeather, Discovery, Hearst, Reuters, and Sprint have joined with Nokia to form the first global mobile ad network of top tier publishers.

Nokia E90 Clone!
Can't afford Nokia E90 price? maybe you should try this gadget :P
It's no more secret that Chinese like to clone every and each handset. A while ago great cloners tried their cloning force at faking Nokia E90 Communicator.
It must be admitted that the clone looks pretty decent, especially outside where it almost fully resembles the original device. However, as we move inside, things start to be different. Totally different keyboard, smaller screen, big stereo speakers speak loudly that the cloned device is very far from the original.
The cloned device is equipped with a 1.3 MP camera, had quad-band radio with EDGE and microSD expansion slot.
The pre-installed software has some office document support and more interestingly has Nintendo emulator. Well, I think inclusion of the later was pretty wise since once you open the device, it does look like a gaming device, pretty close to Nintendo DS + QWERTY keyboard.
It must be admitted that the real device is nicer than it looks on the photos. The price of the device is about US $300. So, it makes a pretty good alternative for wanna-be E90 owners.

Nokia Love Magnets!
There are so many types of charging port in cell phones. Even one brand have some diferent charging ports like Motorola, Nokia or Sony Ericsson. Some with good performances and some with bad one. One of my favourite charging port is a single mini/micro USB jack that can handle the charger, data cable and headset. One port for multi functions!
Another cool alternative is using magnets! That’s right! A new Nokia patent envisions the use of magnets on cable jacks as well as the connectors on the phone. Since the charging port would be polarised opposite to the headset port and so would their respective cables, there won’t be any confusion as to which jack would go where. The patent also mentions that it would also avoid dust from settling into these ports. Now that’s one intelligent concept, right? Looks promising!

Nokia PC Phone
Nokia Beta Labs has released a new application, Nokia PC Phone. Nokia PC Phone is an experimental service that gives you a possibility to use your mobile phone with your Web Browser. An interesting concept, the application lets users to access their contacts, phone log, image gallery, text messaging and more remotely. The only pre-requisite is Internet connectivity on both the PC and the mobile device. Users can even invite their friends to share pictures and blogs online.
You can communicate by using Nokia PC Phone with your friends and family even though they don't have the Nokia PC Phone themselves. Your friends are not able to tell the difference whether you are using the Nokia PC Phone or not, because your calls and text messages are actually made from your own Nokia phone.
Installation instructions
Please go through the Nokia PC Phone installation instructions step by step. It is very easy and fast.
The application works pretty responsive and fast, considering that our phone was tethered to an EDGE network. One interesting feature is camera, which sends a request to the phone to click a picture. When the user clicks one and hits send, the pic is sent to the browser front-end in real-time. During our tests, there was a lag of less than a minute between the time we clicked the picture and its appearance on the PC’s browser. Even browsing the phone’s gallery was quick and makes online sharing of media pretty simple. Now let’s see how Nokia will evolve this unique application into something big.

We've made a number of announcements over the last few months about Google Gadgets as we work to make them universally available and today's release is no exception. Universal Google Gadgets now work from Google Toolbar and give users access to additional tools, functionality and content right from the browser. For developers, Google Toolbar is now an additional channel to distribute gadgets, especially ones designed to interact with the websites users visit.
For example, one of our favorite gadgets is the Google Product Search gadget, which comes in handy this month as we browse for holiday gifts. After adding this gadget, users can select the name of a product on any web page, hit the 'shopping cart' button on the Google Toolbar, and see purchase options for that item sorted by price. Users can click on any search result link to go directly to the merchant's site.
Fill in forms with a click
Holiday online shopping is also easier with the Toolbar's AutoFill feature, which lets users fill out web forms with a single click using address and contact information saved with the Toolbar. This new version has better accuracy, allows users to preview the filled-in form and even maintain multiple profiles. For example, someone who gets packages shipped to both home and office can set up a different profile for each address.
Access your Toolbar from any computer
Now Toolbar settings are not locked to a single computer: users can save them online and access bookmarks, custom buttons and other preferences from any Google Toolbar. Users who move between home and office, or are installing Toolbar on a new computer, can retrieve all their settings instantly by signing in to their Google Account.
Clip and collect content as you browse
Saving links is a great way to be able to keep track of key pages, and now with Google Notebook as part of Toolbar, users can collect, organize and share more information from the web including text and images. This integration makes it easier and more efficient to do all kinds Internet research from planning a vacation to comparison shopping.
Get suggestions for broken links
Instead of getting the usual 404 or DNS error page if they mistype a web address or if a site is down, users will see suggestions for top related pages. This feature is similar to the "did you mean?" function when you do a Google search.
This new version of Google Toolbar 5 also includes full keyboard access and support for Windows accessibility API's.
Rest of all, I would still prefer Firefox and Google toolbar for faster, and more secure browsing. If you IE user, you can try Firefox by click the firefox button on the sidebar of this site :)

Nokia Eco Sensor Concept, Stay in touch with your health and local environment
While the rest of Nokia’s R&D staff are probably busy cranking out S60 Touch-related demonstrations for the CES 2008 conference in a few weeks, the futurists in Espoo have come up with this touch-esque concept you see here. The Nokia Eco Sensor concept is a mobile phone, that much is obvious. But it also packs in a suite of sensors to monitor your health as well as your environment, like the name suggests - which makes it obvious as well.
The Concept
The concept consists of two parts – a wearable sensor unit which can sense and analyze your environment, health, and local weather conditions, and a dedicated mobile phone.
The sensor unit will be worn on a wrist or neck strap made from solar cells that provide power to the sensors. NFC (near field communication) and RFID (radio frequency identification) technologies will relay information from the sensors to the phone or to other devices that support RFID technology.
Both the phone and the sensor unit will be as compact as possible to minimize material use, and those materials used in the design will be renewable and/or reclaimed. Technologies used inside the phone and sensor unit will also help save energy.
Stay in touch with your health and local environment
To help make you more aware of your health and local environmental conditions, the Nokia Eco Sensor Concept will include a separate, wearable sensing device with detectors that collect environment, health, and/or weather data.
You will be able to choose which sensors you would like to have inside the sensing device, thereby customizing the device to your needs and desires. For example, you could use the device as a “personal trainee” if you were to choose a heart-rate monitor and motion detector (for measuring your walking pace).
All materials used in the super-green Eco Sencor concept are to be made using eco-conscious fabrication methods - recycled goods, printed circuits, and bio-materials. The Nokia 3110 Evolve was a good eco-start, we’re hoping Nokia takes it to the next level with the Eco Sensor.

At the annual Nokia World conference at Amsterdam on 4th Dec 2007, Nokia announced Nokia Comes With Music, a revolutionary program that enables people to buy a Nokia device with a year of unlimited access to millions of tracks from a range of great artists - past, present and future.
Once the year is complete, customers can keep all their music without having to worry about it disappearing when their subscription is over.
“We set out to create the music experience that people are telling us they are looking for - all the music they want in the form of unlimited downloads to their mobile device and PC,” said Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Multimedia, Nokia.
According to Anssi, the program will launch with Universal Music Group International, and Nokia is in discussion with the remaining major international labels.
Over 2,700 delegates are gathering in Amsterdam for Nokia World 2007 – the premier global conference for the mobility and internet industries.
Nokia World 2007 features renowned keynote speakers, focused seminar streams, an expo with over 80 demonstrations, and the Nokia Party.

Nokia E90 Killer From Asus??
Well, dont see the picture above seriously, it still Nokia E90 with Asus logo. Lol!
But according to the French-language Mobinaute, they reported that Asus is preparing the release of Asus M930, which is similar in the form-factor with Nokia E90 Communicator. The device will be equipped with 2 displays: a big internal and a small on the top cover, and a full QWERTY-keyboard.
Asus M930 will be powered by Marvel PXA27x 520 MHz processor running on Windows Mobile 6 OS. The communicator is meant for GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA (3.6 Mbps) networks. It also features 256 MB flash ROM and 180 MB RAM, a 3.2-megapixel auto focus camera, an FM-tuner, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless modules. The European release of Asus M930 is scheduled for 1Q 2008.

Nokia Music Store
As part of initiative of online mobile services (Ovi), Nokia Has announced its Music Store service at 29 October 2007. With a single account, music lovers can access the Nokia Music Store via their desktop computer or directly from optimized Nokia devices beginning with the Nokia N81 and Nokia N95 8GB. You can browse for new music, get recommendations or search for your favorite artists, songs or albums all from the palm of your hand.
Once a track captures your attention, you can add it to your wishlist to buy later or purchase it immediately for download to your device without having to download the same song again on your computer. You can also transfer purchased songs via your PC to compatible Nokia devices, including the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic and Nokia 5610 XpressMusic. You can pay by a variety of payment options, including credit cards, PayPal and pre-paid vouchers.
Nokia Music Store will offer seamless over-the-air music purchases and downloads directly from handsets combined with automatic two-way synchronization to the host PC. Other features include dynamic music recommendations and a "Mix Me" feature for creating playlists of recommended songs based on genre preferences. The192Kbps (DRM protected, only) WMA tracks will run €1 (about $1.36) with entire albums starting at €10 ($13.66); PC streaming will also be available for €10 a month. Look for it in Europe before the year's out, expanding to other markets thereafter.
The Nokia Music Store is opening across key European markets this fall with additional stores in Europe and Asia opening over the coming months. Individual tracks will cost EUR 1.00 and albums from EUR 10.00, with a monthly subscription for PC streaming for EUR 10.00.
Other interesting bits from the evening include the news that both O2 and Vodafone will be carrying the Nokia N81 handset. TechDigest found an additional piece of information and is reporting that the Vodafone version will ship with both Nokia Music Shop and the subscription based Omniphone Music Station. Of course, how heavily Vodafone will promote the N81 remains open to debate. The N81 had previously drawn attention after several UK carriers (Orange and T-Mobile) were reported to have refused to carry the handset with Nokia services preloaded.
All of this is rather short sighted on the part of the carriers. It only takes one carrier thinking it can gain first mover advantage (O2 in this case) by promoting the new handsets and services for any stone walling on the part of the carriers as a whole to be ineffective. Moreover the N95 8GB, which will be heavily promoted because of the track record of the N95 classic, will support the same services, making the whole N81 saga even more ridiculous.
Here's a quick round up of what we know (though there is scope for change) about the Nokia Music Shop:
• There are two versions of the store, one for mobile devices and one for PCs. The Music Shop is initially web based for both mobile and PC versions (initially Internet Explorer only on the latter).
A dedicated Windows application, similar to iTunes, will become available in due course (it was demonstrated at Go Play, but will not be available at launch). The mobile version of the store offers full functionality, including payment and download over any connection bearer (realistically 3G or WiFi). If you download a song via the mobile store then it will be synchronised back to the PC when you next connect up the mobile.
• The four big music labels have been signed up (EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner), along with a variety of independent labels. Nokia is also placing an emphasis on delivering local music, so we can expect to see some regional variation in what is available and/or promoted. The range of music does seem to be very broad, with success even on some of the more obscure searches. All told there will be several million tracks available.
• Music is protected via Windows Media DRM. Tracks will be encoded in WMA format at 196 kbps. At some point in the future, the DRM will switch to Microsoft PlayReady which allows for greater flexibility, supports more media types (e.g. videos, ringtones) and supports additional formats (e.g. AAC+). Nokia is aware of the move to DRM-free music, but is somewhat constrained by its partners.
• 30 second previews are available in both the PC and Mobile versions of the store.
• Payment methods include credit card, PayPal and Premium SMS (in select countries). Users will have the option to put a certain amount of credit into their account (similar to PAYG top ups) or can pay on download. There is also support for vouchers and we suspect some devices will come with vouchers in the box to encourage initial usage.
• You can save songs (tagging) in the mobile store for later purchase and download in the PC store.
• The PC version has support for unlimited streaming music subscriptions at a cost of around £8 per month. Streaming subscriptions will not be available for mobile, although it is a likely that this feature will be added in the future. The twist on this compared to similar services is that various playlists will be made available with 'one click to stream' functionality. The playlists will be a combination of human edited lists (e.g. from famous artists or celebrities) and automatically generated lists based on user preferences.
• The store is, apparently, UK only for the moment, other countries will follow shortly.

Intel, Nokia brainstorm on WiMAX
Intel, Nokia, and Nokia Siemens Networks have begun to brainstorm to ensure that the upcoming WiMAX laptops and networks of tomorrow will interoperate smoothly. WiMAX, Wireless Interoperability for Microwave Access, is an outdoor wireless broadband technology, which has a range of 30 miles and a theoretical bandwith of 70 MBps. To ensure seamless connectivity and roaming between networks, the devices -laptops and tablet PCs by Nokia, which run on Intel's silicon platform -and the telecom network equipment have to be compatible. It is this compability that is being worked on by the three behemonths. Intels's WIMAX chip (codenamed Baxter Peak) is designed specifically for mobile internet and consumer electronic devices. Let's hope a new Communicator with this WIMAX capability :)

Microphone Problem Hampers E90 roll-out
Although I never had similiar problem, many E90 user have problem with theirs E90 microphone. I thought it,s only happened in few defective product, but Nokia finally told us that they have defective component in the microphone. And this happened in MANY E90 product!
Nokia said a defective component in microphones, coupled with high demand, have hampered the availability of its flagship business phone, the E90 Communicator.
Background noise during phone calls, which raised customer complaints, was caused by a defective component in the microphone, spokeswoman Theresa Parenteau for Nokia Enterprise Solutions unit told Reuters.
"Although the issue is now rectified it has resulted in more limited availability than originally anticipated in some markets," she said.
When Nokia unveiled the phone in February 2007 it said it would start selling it in the second quarter in selected markets, with volume shipments coming in the July-September quarter.
Customers have also reported scratches on the phone screen caused by some keyboard keys touching the screen. Nokia said it has now added a strengthening layer on the screens and modified the keyboard, so the keys will not touch the screen.
