New Patent from Nokia

Nokia has patented a very unique and multi-purpose device recently. Some even say that this might be the most ambitious patents from Nokia. A device called “a portable electronic device having a cable that functions as a carrying strap, a stylus, a data cable, and a power cable” has now listed in the long patent list of Nokia.

Cutting away the patent jargon, Nokia’s TOUCHSCREEN device has a USB cable tucked away neatly in a cavity below the touchscreen. The cable can act as a hand/neck strap, headsets and even a stylus. The device looks kinda cute in the patent and having the USB cord attached to the device ensures that you don’t leave/lose it. But the bigger question is whether this is going to be one of the phones in the touchscreen ‘portfolio’ that Nokia intends to launch later this year?

Nokia Love Magnets!

There are so many types of charging port in cell phones. Even one brand have some diferent charging ports like Motorola, Nokia or Sony Ericsson. Some with good performances and some with bad one. One of my favourite charging port is a single mini/micro USB jack that can handle the charger, data cable and headset. One port for multi functions!

Another cool alternative is using magnets! That’s right! A new Nokia patent envisions the use of magnets on cable jacks as well as the connectors on the phone. Since the charging port would be polarised opposite to the headset port and so would their respective cables, there won’t be any confusion as to which jack would go where. The patent also mentions that it would also avoid dust from settling into these ports. Now that’s one intelligent concept, right? Looks promising!
