E90 Launch: Day Two

Ok, today is 2nd day of E90 Launch in Jakarta. General people (not only community members) could get the phone now. But of course it not easy because supply and demand is (very) not balanced. Here the story:

- people start to queuing at 1.00 Am at Grand Melia hotel.
- I ask the policeman, there are about 3000 people queuing since the night. Unfortunately Nokia only have stock about 750 unit !
- You only can buy E90 if you have credit or debit card from BCA (Bank Central Asia). Nokia not receiving cash or other debit card.
- One person only may buy one phone. The credit card and ID card must be same name/owner.

- About 40 policeman and 2 Dogs seen in front of ballroom to protect buyers from thief (yes, there are so many thief at Nokia 9500 launch three years ago).
- Many people feel regret because have to back home without E90.
- Many of buyers are scalpers! Ya, they sell again the phone for about 15-17 million Rupiah. So they get about $400-500 just in some hours (that big enough for people here).

Here comment from Dave, he doesnt get the phone: “I have just given up queuing at the Gran Melia, Jakarta after getting squashed and pushed around by the security guards for over 1 hour. Not worth it for the chance of getting only 1 of 750 units they have for sale!!!

Most of those queuing are not genuine buyers but the staff from dealers in the city looking to make a quick sale on the E90 after they get one. One girl queuing beside me said she was offered one for 18 million Rupiah (they (Nokia) are selling them for 10.9million) so some are trying there luck to make a few extra on them where they can!!!

I think I will wait a few weeks for them to arrive in the shops and the price to drop a little before I buy!!”

World first E90 Launch!

Nokia E90 Communicator finally launched in Jakarta today, June 13, 2007. The launch is several hours earlier than Finland (its launch in same day). So we can say that the launch at Jakarta is the first E90 launch in the world…

The launch is separate in two days. The first one is special just for press and exclusive communicator-community members. Community members can get the E90 earlier (today), but its limited by “only” 500 ( update: 1000) unit. I think the stock will sold out just in one or two hours! As you can see in the photos, a very big ballroom in Gran Melia hotel is even not enough to accommodate Indonesian E90 mania. To get the phone, you must pay about US$1,230 (10.9 million Rupiah). Its still cheaper than buying it at any cellular shop. You have to pay at least $1500 to get one!

For general consumer, they can get the phone tomorrow at the same place. This will became the real launch! You will see not just hundreds, but thousands people queuing for the E90 (just like Nokia N9500 launch 3 years ago). I will give the complete coverage tomorrow night. So keep watching!

Ps: I still try to upload some photos, but my connection still in problem. if you interested with other and bigger phots, just email me. At the launch today, Nokia also give one E61i and E90 as doorprice. Unfortunately I’m not the winner . They just give me a Victorinox knife as souvenir. Damn! Why they (PR) always give Victorinox knife as souvenir? A have so many Victorinox in my bag now! Just gimme the E90!!!

And finally Hartono expressed as winner auction with highest price, at Rp. 45 million (about $5000). "My motivation win this auction is for the purpose of charity. If you simply wish to buy, just wait for 2-3 month and you got it much cheaper" say Hartono which also have Communicator of first generation up to now. The proceeds from the auction will be donated as charity to UNICEF.

According to Nokia Indonesia general manager, Hasan Aula, the money got from the auction will donate as charity to UNICEF. Hasan said, in the recent decade, Nokia has always chosen Jakarta as the first city to launch each Communicator series globally. "E90 Communicator will also launch here next month for the first time"

The historical journey of the Nokia Communicator began in September 1996 with the launch of the first Nokia Communicator --the Nokia Communicator 9000-- which had also resulted in the conception of a community of loyal Nokia Communicator users that are known today as the Communicator Community.

Today, the Communicator Community boasts a membership of more than 30,000 and still continues to grow.
